The Midnight Sons Band
Welcome to the 2015 season of live music at the Village Bakery’s open air stage in Haines Junction, Yukon. Friday nights, throughout the summer, visitors and locals enjoy performances by Yukon musicians at this small outdoor venue. JAM Live! will be here again to record some of these concerts for you our listeners.
May 29th, 2015 saw “The Midnight Sons Band” from Whitehorse rocking the Bakery under the glow of the midnight sun.
In JAM Live! Episode 33, we introduced this group to our listeners with a few songs from their debut album “Traction”. So we are very excited to present a live performance from “The Midnight Sons Band”. Band members include Alex Johnston on guitar and vocals, Patrick Docherty on drums and vocals, Dan Stark on guitar and Ian MacIntyre on bass, though Ian couldn’t make it for this show. The band came together in late 2012 and have been sharing their music through the Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba.
Their original sound, described in “Canadian Musician” magazine as “Slight shades of the jam band scene and the Allman Brothers” is a mix of melodic guitar riffs, dynamic percussion, ambient background sounds with soulful lyrics and vocals. Their influences range from contemporary rock, to blues, to folk and their lyrics shed light on both the good and bad of young manhood, and life North of 60.
The bands performance thrilled the audience for nearly three hours, with riveting improvisation and variations on their original material. We’ve crammed as much as we can into the show, so let’s get rockin!
